Issue

The cause of the feline overpopulation problem is easy to identify: cats breed – rapidly. The solution to this is simple.  Human caregivers need to spay and neuter every feline over 4 months of age.  Complicating the implementation of the solution, however, are factors such as: 1) an inability to pay for sterilization on the part of the caregiver, 2) their lack of understanding of the gravity of the feline overpopulation situation, and 3) the notion or rationalization that local animal protection shelters provide only care (as their names imply) and do not act as a conduit for euthanasia.

Consequently, thousands of cats and kittens are taken to shelters each year, and thousands continue to be put to death year after year.  By spaying and neutering as many felines as possible, there will be significantly fewer cats surrendered to shelters or abandoned outdoors.

Solution

Veterinarians are clearly an essential component of the solution.  They possess the skills and medical facilities necessary to perform the feline sterilizations needed to address this critical overpopulation issue.  Though most veterinarians are animal lovers, they can not be expected to place their practices in jeopardy by performing mass and ongoing sterilization procedures on a pro bono basis.

CatSNIP
will connect economically challenged caregivers and their felines with veterinarians and provide the funding for the sterilization procedure. Through this, CatSNIP's mission to humanely reduce feline overpopulation becomes manifest.

Additionally, by leveraging existing grassroots animal rescue groups, networks and other resources, CatSNIP can further reduce the number of healthy cats and kittens that are put to death each year.
